Make Your Own Newspaper Seed Starting Pots

Why buy seed starting pots when you can make them yourself out of something organic and recyclable, like newspapers!

It’s as easy as making paper boats, no kidding. Just gather your newspapers and follow these steps.

Aside from sheets of old newspapers, you’ll also need a bottle with a wide bottom. A bottle of wine is perfect. (Then you can drink from it afterwards…or not!)

  1.  Fold a newspaper page in half then roll it around the wine bottle, leaving some space sticking out past the bottom of the bottle.

  2. Fold the newspaper into the divot (“punt”) in the bottom of the bottle.

  3. Put the bottle with the newspaper seed pot around it on a table surface, pushing it down firmly while moving the bottle around the tabletop. This helps keep the seed pot retain its shape. Carefully ease out from the bottle and it’s ready to use.
